What is the Bull app?
The Bull app is a training and nutrition coach from me, David Turnbull, a Vancouver personal trainer with 15+ years of coaching through TurnFit, powered by AI. The AI drafts your workouts and your daily macros around my approach: posture first, pain-free strength training, and a 40/30/30 split of protein, carbs and fat. I trained it with the knowledge and experience from my 15+ years of coaching people from 14 to 92. I personally review member data and adjust the plans. It is not live coaching, and it opens in early November.
Who is the Bull app for?
It's for almost anyone, at any age and any starting point. I've coached people from 14 to 92, including people with injuries and health conditions, working alongside their doctors and physios. It suits people who like straight talk and want a plan they can follow on their own phone. It's not for diagnosis or treatment. If you have an injury or a medical condition, talk to your doctor or physio first.
What are the options and prices?
There are three, all in CAD. Founding Member is $29 a month (price locked for 12 months). Standard is about $99 a month and Plus is about $199 a month. Standard and Plus prices are approximate until launch.
When does the Bull app launch?
It opens in early November. Joining the waitlist is free and doesn't take any payment. Founding Member spots open first, for the first 100 members.
What is your refund policy?
All sales are final. No refunds. Joining the waitlist is free and doesn't take any payment, so you can read everything and ask questions first.
How do I cancel?
I will confirm before launch exactly how cancelling works, and I'll tell you before you pay for anything. Nothing is charged when you join the waitlist.
Is the Founding Member price locked in?
Yes, for 12 months. The Founding Member option is $29 CAD a month for the first 100 founding members, and it opens first. After the 12 months it becomes the then-current price, with 30 days notice. Founding Members are also helping find the hiccups on different phones and devices, which is why the price is lower.
What happens after the 12 months?
After the 12 months, the price becomes the then-current regular price, with 30 days notice. You'll hear from me before anything changes, so there are no surprises on your card.
What's the difference between Standard and Plus?
Standard is the full app: the AI coach, with me personally reviewing your data and adjusting your plan. Plus is everything in Standard plus a monthly personal check-in from me as a video note. It is a video note, not a live call.
What does the AI do, and what does David review?
The AI drafts and adjusts plans. I trained it with the knowledge and experience from my 15+ years of coaching people from 14 to 92. I personally review member data and adjust the plans. I don't hand-write every plan, and I'm not going to pretend I do. The Plus option adds a monthly video note from me, which is a video note, not a live call.
Is this medical advice?
No. My opinions are strongly biased and they're N=1. The app gives general information and training guidance, not diagnosis or treatment. Please talk to a qualified health professional before changing your health or training, especially if you have an injury or a medical condition.
What if I have an injury, pain or a health condition?
Setup includes a health screening questionnaire (the PAR-Q). If you mention pregnancy, dizziness or a new pain, the app asks what's going on, recommends you see a physio or doctor, and flags it for me to review. With sore joints or arthritis, my approach keeps loads moderate and avoids near-max efforts. The app can't replace a health professional.
How does the Bull app compare with other apps?
Most training and food apps give you a place to log things. The Bull app is built around one coach's way of doing it: posture-first training, 40/30/30 macros in grams, and weekly advice based on what you log. It's new, so it won't have every bell and whistle that older apps have added over the years. Pick it for the approach, not the feature count.
How do the macros work?
Your daily calories are set from details like your weight, height, activity level and your goal, and rounded to the nearest 10. Fat-loss targets have safety limits: no more than about 2 lb (0.9 kg) a week, a deficit of no more than about 25% of maintenance, and a floor of about 1,200 calories a day for women or 1,500 for men. For muscle gain, the app adds about 200 calories a day. Then 40% of those calories go to protein, and the rest is split roughly 30% carbs and 30% fat, shown to you in grams. For example, 1,600 calories works out to about 160 g protein, 120 g carbs and 53 g fat. Protein and carbs are about 4 calories per gram and fat is about 9.
Is the calorie target exact?
No. It's a starting estimate, and it gets adjusted from your results, not from one weigh-in. If progress stalls, my approach is to cycle the same weekly totals (more carbs on training days, fewer on rest days) rather than slash calories. The app is a coach's estimate, not a lab test. I also review each member's targets before they see them, so your figure in the app can differ slightly from the blog calculator after my review.
How does food logging work?
The plan is that you snap a photo of your meal, the app estimates protein, carbs and fat, and you confirm or edit the numbers before they count. You then see what's left for the day and get a couple of food ideas to close the gap. Photo estimates are coaching-accurate, not lab-accurate, so you can always edit them or add food by hand. This is the plan, not a finished feature list.
How does workout logging work?
Each session shows your exercises, sets and reps, and you log the weights and reps you actually did. The plan is built around the days per week you can train and the equipment you have, whether that's a gym, a home gym or just your living room. When you hit your rep range, it suggests going heavier next week, and when you miss, it suggests going lighter. This is the plan, not a finished feature list.
What is the weekly advice?
At the end of each week you add a short reflection. The advice is based on your logged food, your logged workouts and that reflection: how well you hit your macros, what to improve, and how to adjust training. It's written in a plain, normal coach tone. I will confirm before launch how much of it I read personally.
Do I need to take posture photos?
I'm posture-first, so the plan is to ask for full-body photos (front, side and back) when you start. They help decide what to strengthen and what to stretch. For example, rounded shoulders usually mean more back work and opening up the chest and lats. The photos are a coaching record, not a medical scan, and the exact photo schedule gets confirmed before launch.
What devices does it work on, and what if something glitches?
I expect it to start as a web app you open on your phone. Early testers are helping me find the hiccups on different phones and devices, and that's why Founding Members get a founder price. Expect a few glitches, I'll fix them, and I appreciate your patience. I'll be upfront about supported devices before you pay for anything.
Does it sync with my smartwatch or smart scale?
Not that I can promise yet. You'll type in your weigh-ins and measurements at first. If a device connection matters to you, ask me before you join. What's included gets confirmed before launch.
Is my data private?
This site runs no analytics and no ad trackers, and the site's privacy page says I don't sell or rent your data. The app's own privacy policy gets published before launch. I will confirm there what's stored, where it's stored and which providers process it.
Who can see my photos and food logs?
The Bull app is not a social feed, so there's nothing to post to and nobody to follow. The plan is that your photos and logs are private to you and me. I will confirm before launch whether anyone else could ever see them.
